THROUGH THE IUCN SOS PROJECT FROM January to July 2024 over 86 ha of invasive vegetation has been cleared in the Huis Catchment

We have also started planting in key sites in the river

This work has already created over 805 days of employment

WHY?

Alien trees utilise significantly more water than indigenous vegetation and by removing them, you assist in protecting habitat for the critically endangered Tradouw Redfin (also sometimes called the Barrydale Redfin) which is found only in the Huis Catchment. Restoring indigenous vegetation will also increase biodiversity and the overall health of the riparian system
