TO ADDRESS THIS, THE GROOTVADERSBOSCH CONSERVANCY RUNS AN ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION PROJECT
in partnership with LandCare (Department of Agriculture: Western Cape).
This Junior LandCare project educates the youth on the importance of their fynbos, forests and renosterveld biomes – and how best to manage and look after them. |
HOW DO WE GO ABOUT THIS?
WE work with local schools to STRUCTURE OUR ACTIVITIES AROUND THE LIFE SCIENCES CURRICULUM – WHICH TEACHES ABOUT FOOD WEBS, SOIL COMPOSITION, AND WATER AND SOIL CYCLES.
THE CONSERVANCY LEASES A NATURE SITE OUTSIDE HEIDELBERG
– one that is covered in critically endangered vegetation. So the conservancy uses this site to practically showcase the importance of natural resource management. School eco-clubs play a lead role in restoring the site – and encouraging children to take responsibility to protect the landscape.

AS WE PREPARE THE SITE FOR THE CHILDREN, OUR ACTIVITIES HERE INCLUDE:

THE CONSERVANCY ALSO HOSTS FIELD TRIPS FOR THE YOUTH, FOLLOWED BY INTERACTIVE ASSIGNMENTS.
