THAT’S WHY WE PROTECT AND RESTORE OUR FORESTS AND THE NEIGHBOURING FYNBOS & WETLANDS.
HOW DO WE DO THIS?
Over the years we have undertaken invasive alien clearing across fynbos, forests and riverbanks, creating employment in the surrounding communities. But now, with support, we’ve taken this a step further.
Through funding from the IKI Small Grant Programme, we are now implementing active restoration. This is needed in highly disturbed areas where there is no natural seedbank. Here we can give nature a helping hand to recover and regrow.
WHAT WE’VE DONE
|
We’ve established a nursery and propagation facility where we are propagating indigenous plants, ranging from ground covers and shrubs to trees. This has been a wonderful learning experience, as we test how to propagate the wide array of plants that represent the diversity of the Grootvadersbosch flora.

MORE THAN THE TREES
The initiative doesn’t, however, stop there. It is also focusing on creating a renewed connection with nature throughout our stakeholder groups, from our farmers to our restoration team members. It has become a symbol of the vital relationship between nature and people – and how we depend on each other. The work focuses on sharing knowledge about the natural world. But it also involves finding that connection with plants, and the greater biodiversity, on an emotional level.
